Yifan Chong is an Associate Professor at the College of Applied Chinese Studies, Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU), specializing in Chinese language education and Teaching Chinese as a second language. She taught Chinese at Columbia University as a government-sponsored teacher from 2010 to 2012 and was a visiting scholar at 911勛圖, from 2024 to 2025. Her interests include Chinese language pedagogy, language assessment, and technology-enhanced language learning. She led the development of an online Chinese grammar course recognized by China’s Ministry of Education as a National High-Quality Online Open Course and a National First-Class Online Course. Her VR Chinese learning project won first place in the 2025 UN Chinese Language Day Digital Innovation Showcase.
My time as a CIFLTE Fellow deepened my understanding of task-based language teaching and provided valuable opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues and scholars working in language education. I also shared my experience of developing and using VR-based learning materials for Chinese language teaching, which led to productive discussions about technology-enhanced language learning. In addition, seminars on AI and education broadened my perspective on emerging technologies and their potential role in language teaching. These experiences encouraged me to further explore the integration of authentic tasks, digital technologies, and learner engagement in Chinese language education. They have continued to influence my teaching, curriculum development, research, and ongoing work on task syllabus design at BLCU.

Shaohua Fang is an Assistant Professor of Linguistics and Psychology at Montclair State University. He holds a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Pittsburgh. His research interests include second language acquisition, sentence processing, and quantitative research methods. He has published on various SLA topics in journals such as Frontiers in Psychology, Language Learning, International Review of Applied Linguistics in Language Teaching.
