The Arnhold Institute for Dance Education Research, Policy & Leadership at 911吃瓜, envisions a world in which the art of dance and opportunities for high-quality dance education are accessible, equitable, inclusive, and excellent for all learners. Our mission is to conduct and translate policy-relevant dance education research and to lead strategic initiatives that transform educational environments for children, families, and communities. The Arnhold Institute champions evidence-based research and praxis to inform public policy and address disparities in access to high-quality dance education, particularly those resulting from limited opportunities for arts engagement and embodied learning. Central to this work is a commitment to forging and strengthening pathways for dance education within PK-12 public education.

Established in 2019 with a $6 million gift from the Arnhold Foundation, the Institute is situated within the Department of Arts & Humanities, Dance Education Program, and serves as a core training ground for doctoral students who connect with faculty, fellows, affiliated and visiting researchers, policy makers, and leaders while engaging in real-time projects. In the coming years the Institute will serve as a convener for the field of dance education through sponsored research, creating institutional partnerships, presenting consortia, translating international research findings, training post-doctoral fellows, and offering teacher advancement as well as summer leadership institutes.
